GearSpoon - Orange Tiny Terror guitar amp
I'm a huge fan of Rob Chappers, this guy is awesome and he can shred! Anyway, I love my Orange Tiny Terror guitar head; it's a very sweet "micro" amp that really has a great sound with very low-wattage. It has officially replaced my Mesa Boogie F-50 head in my rig.
I really just wanted to post this video of Chappers playing the Tiny Terror because I love this video...maybe I'll do a real review of the Tiny Terror some other day, but not today, I'm just too lazy right now.
FlickSpoon - Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li
Let's stop and think about this for a moment. How many "video games to movies" are done in a such a way that they don't suck, specifically fighting games? Let's review a few of them -
Double Dragon (1994) - sucked so bad, I'll never get that time back!
Street Fighter (1994) - sucked really bad, could it even be considered SF?
Mortal Kombat (1995) - pretty cool!
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) - sucked, didn't they kill off Johnny Cage right away?
Did they primarily suck? Yes, did I watch them? OF COURSE! Why wouldn't I? Will I watch the new Street Fighter flick? Yep! But probably when it's playing on a cable channel late at night, for free.
Why on earth do they make these live-action films? I've seen Street Fighter anime movies that were actually good, but the live-action films are so poorly made. It's always the same old story - they pick some character from the series and for whatever reason, decide to make that character the protagonist. This person will end up overcoming some type of personal issue to fight their way to victory and become the hero!
That plan works great and the best fighting film to pull that off is....The Karate Kid! Okay, okay, yes...that's super biased. There are a lot of films that tell this story very well (Jet Li/Jackie Chan Hong Kong flicks, for example), but not one of those movies are based on a Fighting Game.
Will this movie be any good? I can only hope, but historically, odds are against the movie. Maybe gaming should just be left to gamers; I wonder what Uwe Boll would have to say...

GameSpoon - Review of a Demo; Star Trek Legacy
WOW! Look at all this action!
I thought this game would be fun. I am fairly interested in Star Trek, and have been looking to play a fun game based on the series. Well, what a perfect storm this is. The game spans the over 40 years of the Star Trek franchise AND it is developed by Bethesda - YES!
Then I find out it is a real time strategy game - NO!
I generally hate RTS games. I tried Command and Conquer and Warcraft on the PC when I was younger. I found that I do not have the patience for the style of game, so gave up on them very quickly. Star Trek Legacy, unfortunately, is the same way.
For the demo, you get to choose between skirmish or multiplayer action. Since I was alone. I chose a quick skirmish. You start with a set amount of points you can use to select your fleet. I chose the four different starships, from destroyers to scout ships. After a loading screen showing you what the controls were, I was off and running. Of course I forgot what all of the buttons did, so I was left trying to figure things out on my own...... then I lost. I don't think I destroyed one enemy within that time.
One thing that bothers me about the RTS genre is the controls. I have always heard that RTS games belong on the PC, and in the case of controls they are right. There is just too much you would need to do in this game, and 16 buttons can't handle it. Controlling the direction the ship faces has a very slow reaction time. It is very hard to get a good shot at opposing starfighters.
The demo doesn't give you a good look into the story, but from what I have researched it is pretty extensive. You play through the stories of the Original Series, The Next Generation, and Enterprise. Now if only they could have gotten Scott Bakula to do the voice of John Archer.
Will this demo make me purchase this game? No. Do I like real time stratigy games? No. I think it is pretty clear where my bias is. I could see a fan of the genre playing this game, and they would probably be a better authority than me to tell you how this game is. Case in point, this will not get people attracted to the genre.
Lets hope Halo Wars does that.
GameSpoon - Threats of injuring your Lateral Malleolus in Rockband.
Do real drummers have this same issue?
Over the last weekend I had a chance to "beat" Rockband 2, but not without a cost. I was playing my solo world tour on drums when I felt a slight pain above my ankle. I was playing a warmup show before playing a sold out show in Shanghi when I first noticed the pain. I played through the slight annoyance, not thinking any more pain would come.
I was wrong.
I got to Shanghi to rock the socks off of millions of virtual fans. After about the third song [of eight], I started to notice this slight pain to be a little more than slight. after the fifth song, it got a bit unbearable. Knowing that I could not dissappoint my "fans" I trudged through it. By the time I had played 'Tallica's "Battery" and "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, I was in a conciderable amount of pain. Not even the games "ending" made me feel better.
This may be a worthless story, yes I know this. But the fact that I injured myself playing a video game kind of pisses me off.

GameSpoon - Halo 3 Lucky Throw
A lot of people have already experienced this video, featured on MLG, but it is new to me. I felt compelled to add this video to The Spoon!
I know that Bungie, at times, awards the coveted Halo 3 Recon Armor to people that pull off the seemingly impossible - like what happens in this video. I hope the person who threw that plasma grenade, woke up one morning to find some fancy, new armor waiting for him/her; they deserve it!

JapanSpoon - killer foot massage machine
Why the hell didn't anyone alert me of this story earlier!?
Here's the situation: three people were killed by a foot massage machine in Japan! It is sad to hear about anyone losing their life, but man, what a way to go.
Now, I know what you're thinking, "how the hell did a foot massage machine turn into a foot massage killing machine?" Apparently, user error is too blame. These three individuals - (aka targets of a ninja disguised as a foot massage machine) - used the product, which was meant for their feet, on their necks and shoulders. What happened was that the rollers in the machine, grabbed a hold of the shirt and strangled the individuals. In all honesty, that is sad news. The engineers who developed the product, should have accounted for something like this in their design. But seriously, "killed by a foot massage machine" - wtf?!
Thanks to Gizmodo for the story.
GameSpoon - Review of a Demo; Mirrors Edge
This is a 14 button combination move
Here is a quick review of the Mirrors Edge Demo:
Conceptually, this game is very neat..... but it is executed poorly. The Jump and Duck buttons are the LB and LT buttons respectively, which makes for very awkward game play at its core. This game will devinetly give you hand cramps. There are plenty of things that you can "do" but it all involves too much timing and coincidence.
Basically, a first person street runner game is kind of weird...........

TubeSpoon - Heroes
Ditch that zero and get with a hero....
It has been a strange season to say the least. Hiro a 10 year old? Peter lost his powers [again]? Arthur Patrelli is alive and wants to right the world by destroying it? Nikki Saunders is Tracy Strauss, but not really because they were genetically created? Syler is brothers with Peter and Nathan....................and becomes a wuss in the future?????
Then they fired some writers..........
Now things are back to normal:
Nathan thinks he is doing good but in all actuallity is not - Awesome
Sylar is a killer again - Awesome
Peter is whiny again, just without his powers - Awesome
Hiro became the greatest hero ever, then fucked it up within seconds - Awesome.
See, what I am saying is that there was a reason why season 1 was so popular. If they stick to that theme for the rest of the season, it could possibly be saved.......... saved........... could the writers be the REAL heroes of this show?
GameSpoon - Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix

SpoonThrash, are you sitting down? Good.
The folks at VideoGamer.com have revealed that Capcom's kick-ass Street Fighter HD release was almost canned! How could this happen? You ask. I'll tell you why - because of the art work.
Apparently, earlier this year, all the art work for SSFIIHDR had to be redone by a different team of artists. According to producer Rey Jimenez and an interview VideoGamer.com had with lead designer David Sirlin:
"Without going into the nitty-gritty of it, the art they were producing just wasn't up to par or schedule of what we needed. To be honest, a lot of their art was looking pretty good, but just not 'good enough'. It just wouldn't satisfy the quality bar that both Capcom and Street Fighter fans demand. Once Udon and Capcom agreed to go with that route, we had to essentially reboot the whole art pipeline. The character art pretty much started over from scratch with new reference art from Udon" (Jimenez).
When asked if he ever felt that Capcom might cancel the game, Sirlin told VideoGamer.com: "Yeah that was a possibility. It felt the most possible during that first phase during the art that we had to throw away. It was unspoken but everyone just knew it that if that art wasn't going to work out then maybe they were going to cancel the whole thing" (Sirlin).
This explains why it took so long for the game to launch, but I'm quite pleased that the game was released; the world would be a much darker place without it.

GameSpoon - Tekken 6
Tekken has been my favorite fighting series since the game launched on the original Playstation in the US. The speed of the game, the variety of styles and the unique control over the characters captivated me instantly.
Since my first experience with the game, I have always done my best to keep up with the series' releases and it's hard to ignore it when trailers, such as this one, are released!
This trailer, showcased for the "Atari Live" press event, gives you a glimpse at the gameplay of Tekken 6. This will be the first title, that I'm aware of, that will not only be released for the Playstation, but will be released on a non-Sony platform as well - the Xbox 360!
It'll be interesting to see the differences between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions. I wonder how this change will affect the series, will any previous versions of the game be released on the Xbox Live Arcade to help promote the release? We'll see in "Autumn of 2009"...well, time to go hibernate.

RandomSpoon - Super Mario Bros 2, gypsy-jazz style
Kotaku posted on this and I felt it was a perfect video to add to The Spoon - seeing how we covered Django Reinhardt earlier this year.
In the video below, you'll see a guy playing the music from Super Mario Bros. 2 in Django's gypsy-jazz style. It's quite impressive! If you don't think it is, just because you don't care for jazz, then think again! Take my word, as an experienced guitarist (in rock, metal, blues, jazz), this guy has chops:

We're back! We all had a great Thanksgiving holiday...including a 9 hour stint of Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix and MK vs DC over at SpoonThrash's place. But, all good things must come to an end and we're back to the grind.

GameSpoon - Protect your Xbox Live Account

People, this is a real issue that could have a very negative affect on your Xbox Live experience, and I'm not talking about the new interface. IGN wrote up an article about a real hacked event that occurred to one of their journalists, Dan 'Shoe' Hsu.
In this article, Dan explains what happened to him and how he found out that his account was hacked! It's important to know that you may have been hacked and not even know about it. Please consider Dan's (IGNs) seven tips to protect your account:
Seven tips to avoid being hacked on Xbox Live - courtesy of IGN.com
Here are a few things you should do to protect your Xbox Live account, compiled from other users (special thanks to MDK x2002x), my own experiences, and Stephen Toulouse:
- Don't answer your secret question with the real answer. Instead, select something completely unrelated (for example, First Pet = Will Tuttle) that you can remember, effectively giving you a second password.
- In the "address 2" line of your profile [My Account - Contact Info], put down: "XBOX SUPPORT DO NOT ASSIST WITH ACCOUNT RECOVERY" to help automatically raise a red flag when a customer support rep looks up your account.
- If you're planning on gaming away from your default console, put your account on a memory card or move it with your hard drive, as opposed to recovering it on another machine.
- Never reveal any personal details about yourself while gaming over Xbox Live.
On that same note, go ahead and leave your profile's bio blank. No need to tell everyone where you live.- Limit the amount of information you put out there for everyone to see on social networking sites...or any website for that matter. Especially ones where you also have your Gamertag listed.
- Create an Xbox Live passcode if you haven't already. To do this, select "My Xbox" on the Xbox dashboard and go to your profile, then go to "Account Management" then "Xbox Live Pass Code."
- And try to keep track of your purchases on Xbox Live as well as your Microsoft Points balance, so if you ever do get hacked (knock on wood), you'll be able to help customer service facilitate your refunds more efficiently.

GameSpoon - NXE and Netflix
FINALLY! NXE is off and running. As SpoonThrash has already posted, NXE is chalk full of new features including a new interface, a new Xbox Avatar system, and Netflix. I had a chance to play around with the Netflix option last night, and I must say: I am pleased.
Not being a Netflix subscriber, I found this to be the perfect opportunity to join. I signed up for the free 2 week subscription as soon as I installed the NXE. After a quick and easy setup, I was ready to go online to start browsing the titles they have available to stream straight to my Xbox. While Netflix offers more than 100,000 movie and television titles to choose from, only about 10% of those are available to stream.
After debating with my fiance about what to watch; Hanna Montana Season 1 or CSI: Las Vegas Season 9, We finally decided on CSI. After selecting the title on Netflix.com, the option was immediatly available on my Xbox. The option came with 6 expisodes to watch. We selected the first episode, which brought us to a screen that confirmed our internet connection. After determining our network speed, the episode started loading. It is worth noting that I have my Xbox hard wired into my modem. With that being said, I was shocked to find that my network connection was very low [2 bars filled out of 5]. It took about 3-4 min for the episode to load and start. The video quality was very low, with the picture being grainy and blurry. We decided to suck it up and just watch the episode like that. Throughout the show, I was a little unimpressed to find such bad quality, and a bit dissapointed that the network speed was so slow. I have pretty fast internet otherwise, as watching television programs on my laptop has been nothing but perfect. Is this the way it was always going to be?
Being the troopers we are, we finnished the episode. Deciding that one was not enough, we decided to watch another epidode. We selected the next one, and was supprised to find that the network connection was 4 out of 5 bars, and the epidode loaded in under a min (and as a confirmation of the recent NXE that SpoonRock posted, yes the episode was in HD!). A few seconds later our epidode started with the crispest picture I have ever seen in a streaming video. There were no more doubts in my mind that this wasn't the best thing ever. We watched 4 more episodes after that with only one minor stall in playback, which lasted all of 5 seconds (if that).
All in all, I am very pleased with the decision Microsoft made with teaming up with Netflix. It allows the system to be more than a gaming system, more of a focal point of your entertainment center.
RUMOR: After writing this post, SpoonRock has informed me that Sony has pulled all of their movies from Netflix-Xbox Access.........to which he says, and I quote: "[those] dicks!"

GameSpoon - New Xbox Experience

It's finally here! The moment you've been dreading/waiting for! Well, I'm sure most of you are well aware of the significant user-interface changes for the Xbox 360, dubbed the "new xbox experience," so I'll save you the trouble of going into depths as to what some of these changes include. Here's an overview:
- Blades are gone...or are they? - They were actually moved to the Xbox Guide (the menu that pulls up when you click the "xbox" button).
- Avatars - Well, what can you really say about that? Time to make some messed up looking characters.
- Parties! BYOB - Party Chat is finally here, thank Christ. Up to 8 people can chat in one channel now...that means, your entire Halo 3 Big Team Battle team can communicate without having to touch the frickin' d-pad. Think of the glory! GLORY, DAMN IT, GLORY!! *fade to black*
- Play From Your Hard Drive - Finally, a solution to the problem of the EXTREMELY LOUD disc drive, that I love so much. I think mine has gotten worse...No more! You can download your games to you HDD. Not enough space? No worries, just delete the game you aren't playing! Also, load times will be quicker.
- Netflix - This is going to be sweet! Stream flicks, including HD (I believe); however, you need to have a Netflix subscriptiong w/unlimited streaming.
- and a ton more...

TuneSpoon - Dir En Grey

How many bands do you know of that started out with a very pop-rock kind of sound, that successfully pulled off an extremely dark, heavy transition? I can think of one, Dir En Grey.
This band will rip your face off; plain and simple.
Who is Dir En Grey? Dir En Grey hails from Japan and is one of the few bands that have been fortunate enough to break through the language barrier and see success in English-speaking countries.
They have a very heavy, technical-guitar style. The vocals are extremely dynamic as is their music. They create familiar and unique sounds. Their composition is very thoughtful, meaning every moment they are clearly aware of what they are doing and are actively moving their songs a long; avoiding a simple repeativite chord structure as the basis for each section of their tracks.
Whether you understand Japanese or not, you will understand their music. However, it is not for the faint of heart; you'll need to have an appreciation for post-hardcore music to truely enjoy the experience that is Dir En Grey.
Japan has a very cool music scene with a wide range of styles available to those who are willing to seek out some new music.
Check out Dir En Grey on their Purevolume page or their Myspace page! Or just go randomly purchase their music. If you like post-hardcore, you'll dig these guys as much as I do. Now, back to some "clever sleazoid."

Gamespoon - Johnny Chung Lee; The future of gaming?
SpoonPops turned me on to this a while back now. How many times have you played games like Halo 3, where your character is hiding behind a wall and you are physically trying to look around the corner? Well, I know this has happened to me, and this has clearly happened to Johnny Chung Lee. Only I can't do crap about it, because I don't know crap about programming. Well guess who does? That's right, Johnny Chung Lee.
And now if you hadn't had enough, and looking for something a little bit more futuristic, watch this:
"Now, if your fingers are anything like mine, they don't emit very much infra-red light; they're made of skin!". Ah Johnny, a programmer and a master of anatomy.
So, if you know anything about electronics, get yo-self over to Radio Shack and spend yo-self $20 and make one....... and invite me over to play with it.
TuneSpoon - Zach Kim
Guitar + Piano = Zach Kim. SpoonRock's last post about the guy playing the Mega Man 2 theme lead me back to these videos. While this isn't the most practical form of guitar, it sure is great. Here are a few of my favorite video game themes:
The Legend of Zelda
Tetris Theme
Super Mario Brothers
Wait, is that the guy from Dragonforce?!?
GameSpoon - Mega Man 2

After spending a portion of my Saturday evening, in an epic battle playing Ice Hockey on a top-loading NES against SpoonThrash, I was inspired. So inspired that I decided to fire up the ol' Nintendo Wii to browse through the Virtual Console NES titles. What did I find? Mega Man 2 of course! I loved, no, I love the Mega Man series. I've forgotten how great (and difficult) old Nintendo platforming can really be.
Mega Man 2 was originally released in North America in July of 1989 and I think it is safe to say that I haven't played that game since 1991 - give or take a few years. What surprised me about playing the VC version, is that I actually recognized a few of the boards! For someone with as bad of a memory as I have, that's pretty remarkable. It just goes to show how much time I must have invested in the Mega Man series when I was young. For those of you who also love(d) the series, I highly recommend throwing down the 500 points, you won't regret it.
Check this video out! Remember how EPIC the Mega Man 2 music is? Awesome.
Okay, okay, I have to add this video too. I think SpoonThrash and I will start a "mega man series" cover band, we'll get SpoonRavis to jump in there with a wicked saxophone solo too:

TuneSpoon - Silverchair: Emotion Sickness
Silverchair happens to be the band that caused me to go out and pick up my first guitar; it's been one hell of a road since that time. The last time I was fortunate enough to see them play, during the Young Modern tour, they played "Emotion Sickness" just like this video and it changed my life, again.
"Emotion Sickness" was the first song I ever learned to play on guitar and there will always be a special place for this song in my heart. To have witnessed this rendition of the song was quite remarkable. This band changed my life, will it change yours? Pay attention to the dynamic, melodic, harmonic content of this song.
Enjoy

GameSpoon - Bungie

The folks at GamesIndustry.biz have dug up some information pertaining to Bungie's future.
As suspected, Halo 3: Recon is not the only game Bungie has up their sleeve right now. They are working on a new IP, a non-Halo game. However, after Bungie's separation from Microsoft, the question then becomes, who will publish this game? Which platform(s) will this game be released on?
I don't know about you, but I can't imagine a world without a Bungie game for the Xbox. We can only hope that the game will be released on multiple platforms, but it sure sounds like Bungie still has some love for the 360.
Here's what Bungie's PR Director, Brian Jarrard, thinks of the 360:
For us the 360 has been great because there's just been this great synergy with Bungie because all of our games have this inherent social community aspect. . .Everything we've ever done has this very big online component - we, together with the Xbox consoles, have continued to push that Live experience, the whole notion of a party experience forward.
I like to think that we brought a lot of that to the market, and we want to keep iterating on that. In that regard Live has been a great service to us. It's astonishing to look at how well Halo 3 is doing even now, a year after release.
We haven't really seen much of a decline in play, and we recently surpassed the lifetime number of games ever played on Halo 2 - so we're talking about four years of Halo 2 boiling down to about 1 year of Halo 3.
It's been pretty astounding, and to see our fans stand by us, it's even more reason why we want to do Halo 3: Recon, just to give something back and extend the experience a little bit longer.

While doing my daily Google image search, I had noticed something amazing. Elderly people LOVE the Wii.......an I have proof. All I know, if my Grandpa was around right now, he would be the shit at Wii Bowling.
Here are a few of my favorites:

So happy.
Thank you Nintendo Wii for giving these people something to do while their family forgets about them in the nursing home.

RandomSpoon - What the hell?
I ate a 20-pound burger and all I got was this stupid t-shirt...and $400

This guy ate a 20-pound burger in four hours and thirty-nine minutes. Why the hell would you eat a 20-pound burger? Well, let's find out...
The wonderful folks at Denny's Beer Barrel Pub created a burger called the "Beer Barrel Belly Bruiser." This massive burger is 15lbs of beef topped with 5.2lbs of lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, banana peppers (mild), mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and relish...and, of course, a bun.
So, why did Brad Sciullo do this? According to him, he "wanted to see if [he] could" (cnn.com). Well, good work Mr. Sciullo...I guess. If it took over 4 hours for that burger to enter your body...what happens when it leaves? That's messed up.

FlickSpoon - JJ Abrams' Star Trek Images In New EW

Paramount is finally revealing images from J.J. Abrams revamp of Star Trek in the new issue of Entertainment Weekly. It's the current trend in Hollywood to restart every single franchise to find a new audience. Hopefully this will also work for Star Trek.
The first image released above is Heroes' Zachary Quinto as Spock (duh).

TubeSpoon - My Own Worst Enemy

Mondays just got a little bit better. Following Chuck and Heroes is the new one hour actioner 'My Own Worst Enemy' starring Christian Slater. Action? Yep. Espionage? Check. Complicated plot? Nah. If you could follow Total Recall, True Lies, and any given episode of Alias, you'll be just fine.
Christian Slater stars as Edward--badass, indestructible super agent. This guy is so super top secret; the agency he works for is so classified that a split personality had to be created within his brain. At the end of each mission he is "Put To Sleep", meaning he becomes the dormant personality Henry.
Henry works a boring job, has a loving family, and is wondering why he keeps having these dreams of adventure and intrigue.
Things, inevitably, get wild when Henry wakes up during one of Edwards missions.
You follow?
Anyway, if you can handle three hours of tv on Mondays you may as well watch 'My Own Worst Enemy' after 'Heroes'.
We owe it to Christian Slater...it's been a long road for that dude.

TubeSpoon - SNL Mark Wahlburg Talks To Animals
This has been online for about a week now, but it's too random and hilarious to not have on The Spoon.
FlickSpoon - RocknRolla

For those of us who are fans of London gangster flicks like 'Snatch' and 'Lock, Stock, And Two Smoking Barrels'--'RocknRolla' hits a homerun. The story contains all the plot twists, crude dialogue, and idiotic crooks that we've come to love in Guy Ritchie's films.
It tells the tale of business deal between the London underground and the Russian mob. A "lucky" painting is involved. And at the heart of it all is a burnt out lead singer of a british rock group.
The performances are top of the line--the cast features Gerard Butler, Thandie Newton, and Tom Wilkinson (who is easily the most powerful character in the story).
It is currently in limited release and will go wide on Halloween. Keep an eye out for it, for Guy Ritchie fans it doesn't get any better than this.
FlickSpoon - Ridley Scott To Direct 'The Forever War'

Ridley Scott will direct his first sci-fi movie since Alien and Blade Runner. 'The Forever War' is a property he has had the rights to for almost twenty years. It tells the story of a war hero who returns to his home planet decades later to find that they don't know who he is. Scott has referred to it as "The Odyssey Meets Blade Runner".
I'm all about that.

GameSpoon - Call of Duty: World at War
I have to admit, I am a Halo guy. When Call of Duty 4 was released, I was too busy playing Halo 3 to notice. I discovered COD4 far too late into the lifespan of that game, but I have to tell you, I love that game! I was amazed by the campaign's gameplay, graphics and epic battles, but I was blown away by the COD4 multiplayer...it changed my life.
Needless to say, I was a bit worried when Call of Duty: World at War was annouced. After all, how could a WWII game hold up to the technology of modern warfare? Would COD5's multiplayer even be in the same realm as COD4? Well, thanks to the graciousness of SpoonGamer, I can put these questions to rest.
Today marks the release of Call of Duty: World at War's multiplayer beta! SpoonGamer hooked me up with some special access to this fantastic game. While waiting for the game to download, I nervously played some random XBA games, but I could barely even concentrate on what I was doing as I eagerly awaited COD5...then, it was time.
As soon as the game loaded, I instantly felt at home. The user interface, design and controls all felt reminiscent of COD4. I was easily able to jump into my first match. And what I experienced set the tone of my entire night.
First Impressions -
Call of Duty: World at War's multiplayer experience is remarkable. The gameplay is smooth, fast and challenging. COD5's predecessor took place in a modern setting which allowed for multiplayer features such as radar, airstrikes and helicopters; how could a WWII timeline handle these? Don't you worry, the folks at Treyarch did a fantastic job at creating some brand new features that take place of COD4's modern technology. Of course, they added some additional content as well.
Critiques -
Don't get me wrong here, this is obviously a beta version of multiplayer, there could be certain things that occur that may be bugs or certain features that may or may not be included in the final version of the game, but as of now, I really have not encountered anything that I disliked. However - yes there is actually something that stood out to me - first impressions and all - there is one thing that seemed a bit strange to me. Playing as a sniper, I noticed that it took a (seemingly) long time to actually look down the sniper scope.
Let me try to clarify this a little here. What I'm talking about is the time it took for me to actually be able to look down the sniper scope from the time I pulled the trigger to activate that functionality in the game. It seemed to me, that it took a "long" time, a time delay in the animation that I don't recall occurring in COD4. There really isn't an issue here, but I just found it to be difficult to run over to a spot and try to quickly look down the scope for a target, the move on. The time it took to look down the scope seemed to inhibit my ability to actually get my sights on someone if they were simply running by.
I could definitely see this lag as being a feature of the weapon, after all it is an extremely effective weapon type for this game. The time delay seems to add a bit of a challenge to this already, outstanding gameplay.
Final Thoughts -
With this simply being a response to my first impressions of the multiplayer (beta) aspect of the game, I can't really provide too much of an in depth review, but I can honestly say that I know that I'll enjoy COD5 very much. I am very impressed with this multiplayer aspect of the game and I look forward to playing the final version of both multiplayer and campaign modes.
As of now, I highly suggest purchasing this game, you will not be disappointed. I look forward to spending my weekend plugging away at this game. Maybe I'll post again on it. COD is awesome! Great job Treyarch!
