GameSpoon: Halo: Reach teaser

Halo: Reach - fall of 2010! "From the beginning, you know the end," what could this mean? What type of game will this be? Bottom line...will it rock? I have high expectations for this next Bungie release, I hope I'm not disappointed.

Fall of 2010 might be a ways out there, but thankfully we get Halo 3: ODST this fall! Make sure you still have your copy of Halo 3 laying around!

GameSpoon - Halo 3 Lucky Throw

A lot of people have already experienced this video, featured on MLG, but it is new to me. I felt compelled to add this video to The Spoon!

I know that Bungie, at times, awards the coveted Halo 3 Recon Armor to people that pull off the seemingly impossible - like what happens in this video. I hope the person who threw that plasma grenade, woke up one morning to find some fancy, new armor waiting for him/her; they deserve it!

GameSpoon - Halo Montage

Why? Because Halo is awesome! Anway, this is a montage that Bungie tossed on their site, it's pretty great. If you are a Halo player, you should enjoy this. Hope to see you online this weekend.

GameSpoon - Bungie

The folks at GamesIndustry.biz have dug up some information pertaining to Bungie's future.

As suspected, Halo 3: Recon is not the only game Bungie has up their sleeve right now. They are working on a new IP, a non-Halo game. However, after Bungie's separation from Microsoft, the question then becomes, who will publish this game? Which platform(s) will this game be released on?

I don't know about you, but I can't imagine a world without a Bungie game for the Xbox. We can only hope that the game will be released on multiple platforms, but it sure sounds like Bungie still has some love for the 360.

Here's what Bungie's PR Director, Brian Jarrard, thinks of the 360:

For us the 360 has been great because there's just been this great synergy with Bungie because all of our games have this inherent social community aspect. . .Everything we've ever done has this very big online component - we, together with the Xbox consoles, have continued to push that Live experience, the whole notion of a party experience forward.

I like to think that we brought a lot of that to the market, and we want to keep iterating on that. In that regard Live has been a great service to us. It's astonishing to look at how well Halo 3 is doing even now, a year after release.

We haven't really seen much of a decline in play, and we recently surpassed the lifetime number of games ever played on Halo 2 - so we're talking about four years of Halo 2 boiling down to about 1 year of Halo 3.

It's been pretty astounding, and to see our fans stand by us, it's even more reason why we want to do Halo 3: Recon, just to give something back and extend the experience a little bit longer.

GameSpoon - Halo 3 Recon

Coming in 2009...Halo 3 Recon!

Here's a quick overview of what this addition to the Halo 3 world will consist of - courtesy of Xbox.com:

  • All-new campaign content: The Halo 3: Recon campaign is an intriguing side story that takes place during the terrifying events leading up to the Master Chief’s return to New Mombasa in Halo 3. Experience the fate of Earth from the brand-new perspective of a special forces ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper), adding a unique outlook and new gameplay elements to the events that unfold in the trilogy’s finale. While the feel of this new chapter greatly resembles that of previous Halo experiences, Halo 3: Recon will require you to employ more elements of stealth and cunning than ever before.

  • Prepare to drop: Known for their courage, valor and, at times, insanity, ODSTs are among the fiercest UNSC soldiers, priding themselves on being the first unit deployed into hostile situations. While not as large or supernaturally gifted as their Spartan comrades, these "Hell Jumpers" more than compensate with their ferocious attitudes and unwavering nerve.

  • Expanded multiplayer collection: No Halo experience would be complete without groundbreaking multiplayer content, and Halo 3: Recon gives fans more of what they love. With exclusive new maps and expanded Forge options, Xbox LIVE® Gold members will find more multiplayer content than ever before with Halo 3: Recon.

  • Ever-growing community options: Enjoy all the great Halo 3 technological innovations, including Saved Films, screenshots, Campaign Scoring, and four-player co-op. All of the new multiplayer maps fully support the Forge editor, offering endless gameplay customization possibilities.

GameSpoon - Call of Duty 4 vs. Halo 3

GameSpoon - rant

I have to say, Halo 2 is the game that started multiplayer for me. Obviously, it wasn't the first multiplayer experience for me, but this game started it all. Needless to say, the anticipation for Halo 3 consumed me and my expectations were extremely high. So, what happened? I don't think that I am the only person to feel burned by Halo 3. After dedicating myself to the first two Halo releases, I found the third release to be slightly disappointing. Don't get me wrong, I love Halo - including Halo 3 - but it caused me to miss out on one helluva great multiplayer game, COD4.

I LOVE Call of Duty 4. It has the best multiplayer experience that I have ever played, very intuitive and balanced. One thing that always irked me with Halo 3 is the leveling system. I understand the Bungie really tried to create a balanced gameplay with their own leveling system, but it never made sense to me. Here is why: what good is it to have a different level for each ranked game variant? The gameplay is universal. How could it be balanced if you are a noob playing Lone Wolf for the first time, let's say you are a level 5. But most of your opponents, who in Lone Wolf are also level 5's, but in Team Slayer, these opponents are level 35. Level 5 vs. Level 35s...how is that fair or balanced? There is hope though, word on the street is that Bungie is taking notes and perhaps Halo 4's multiplayer will dominate! We'll see...
