FlickSpoon - Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li

Let's stop and think about this for a moment. How many "video games to movies" are done in a such a way that they don't suck, specifically fighting games? Let's review a few of them -

Double Dragon (1994) - sucked so bad, I'll never get that time back!
Street Fighter (1994) - sucked really bad, could it even be considered SF?
Mortal Kombat (1995) - pretty cool!
Mortal Kombat: Annihilation (1997) - sucked, didn't they kill off Johnny Cage right away?

Did they primarily suck? Yes, did I watch them? OF COURSE! Why wouldn't I? Will I watch the new Street Fighter flick? Yep! But probably when it's playing on a cable channel late at night, for free.

Why on earth do they make these live-action films? I've seen Street Fighter anime movies that were actually good, but the live-action films are so poorly made. It's always the same old story - they pick some character from the series and for whatever reason, decide to make that character the protagonist. This person will end up overcoming some type of personal issue to fight their way to victory and become the hero!

That plan works great and the best fighting film to pull that off is....The Karate Kid! Okay, okay, yes...that's super biased. There are a lot of films that tell this story very well (Jet Li/Jackie Chan Hong Kong flicks, for example), but not one of those movies are based on a Fighting Game.

Will this movie be any good? I can only hope, but historically, odds are against the movie. Maybe gaming should just be left to gamers; I wonder what Uwe Boll would have to say...
